‘Prosecuting Casey Anthony’ beats Lance Armstrong

“Prosecuting Casey Anthony” averaged 3.3 million viewers in its Saturday premiere on Lifetime.

The movie did better than Oprah Winfrey’s ballyhooed interview with Lance Armstrong. The first part of that chat on OWN brought in 3.2 million viewers Thursday night.

Lifetime highlighted that the Anthony movie was the top telecast Saturday night on ad-supported cable in total viewers. The movie was also tops in adults and women older than 18 as well as women in the key age groups 18-to-49 and 25-to-54.

For the week in cable, the movie ranked No. 23. The top programs in cable were USA’s “WWE Entertainment” with 4.7 million viewers and  Discovery’s “Gold Rush” with 4.6 million. The first half of Winfrey’s interview with Armstrong ranked No. 31.

The top channels in cable prime time last week were USA, TBS, FX, Fox News Channel and TNT.

“Beyond the Headlines: Prosecuting Casey Anthony,” a documentary that followed the movie, drew 2.4 million total viewers in its premiere on Lifetime.

Rob Lowe played prosecutor Jeff Ashton in the movie, which is based on Ashton’s book, “Imperfect Justice.”

In Orlando, “Prosecuting Casey Anthony” was the biggest show Saturday night. The movie drew 129,500 viewers to its 8 p.m. premiere. The Lifetime documentary about the case was No. 2 show for the night with 87,300 viewers.
